Dry By Design: Tiger Crane’s Sealed Turret Advantage

9/17/2025

For maximum performance in demanding environments, the heart of a service truck is a reliable service crane. And the heart of a service crane is its turret—the rotating tower that carries the boom. Keeping this area clean and protected from the elements directly impacts reliability, maintenance, and usable storage.

What is a “Sealed Turret?”

A sealed turret means the turret and rotation assembly are enclosed and gasketed so rain, wash water, dust, and grit can’t get into the crane tower or the body cabinet below.

How Tiger Cranes Does It

Tiger Cranes are constructed with a fully sealed turret and rotation assembly. This is accomplished with a special gasketed bulkhead plate for all hydraulic and electrical connections. The slewing drive of the crane is also fully sealed, as well as the connection from the slewing drive to the crane tower/body.

In addition, Tiger Crane tower cabinets are sealed using a single-paneled door that recesses inside a door frame; a compression gasket around the opening; and a 3-point locking mechanism with a compression hinge. This helps keep dirt out of the cabinet, even in the dirtiest jobsites.

Why It Matters

If the turret is not completely sealed, the solution is often a drip pan located in the crane tower and a hose to drain the water. This type of configuration, found in many competitors’ models, reduces usable cabinet space and can invite corrosion.

On Tiger Cranes, our watertight turret and cabinet allow the crane tower to be open so an air reel and FLR (filter-regulator-lubricator) system can be located in the crane tower—and still leave plenty of room for storing other tools.

Not only does a sealed turret allow for more storage, it also offers other important benefits:

  • Less corrosion in the tower/cabinet area, which means fewer rusty fasteners and electrical components.
  • Secure storage of a Tiger Crane wireless remote controller.
  • Protects the rotation system so there is less contamination of bearings, gears, and valves.
  • Routine maintenance and cleanup is easier when you don’t have to constantly dry the cabinet.
  • Overall, less maintenance and worry!
