The 2250 Crane Body Update

The all-new 2250 is here! The update is a project that was implemented in several design stages to address specific needs and provides operators the most versatile body on the market today.

Why the Update?
The driving goal of the new Series I 2250 Body was to improve compatibility with a wider range of Tiger Crane models used on chassis between 19.5K and 26K GVWR that were new to the market. “We saw an opportunity to provide our customers with a crane body that gave them flexibility in crane model selection, without sacrificing valuable payload”, said Tim Henrich, STI’s National Sales Manager. “Customers can now choose a Tiger Crane with lift capacities from 3K up to 8.6K, without being forced into a body that’s equipped for larger cranes and therefore being grossly overweight”. Offering flexibility while maintaining proper weight balance and stability at the selected chassis GVWR was key performance metric for the Series I project.

The Redesign Addressed 4 Other Areas:
Offering a greater breadth of crane capacities was the top priority for the redesign of the Series I, but it wasn’t the only area we wanted to address. There were four other targets for improvement we aimed to achieve:

ADDED SAFETY:
We are always looking for opportunities to make our products safer for you when working in the field. One of the ways the Series I 2250 addresses safety is by relocating the main stair access point to the back of the bumper, as opposed to the side of the bumper as previous. This design change allows for a new larger, easier-to-reach handrail that enables 3-point contact for anyone entering or exiting the truck bed.

HIDDEN HINGES:
The new stainless steel internal hinge is a signature design element. The new sleek look stands out against the legacy models.  The heavy-duty hinge is protected from the elements inside the body compartment. In conjunction with the door check, the new hinge design limits door travel and prevents damage in high wind environments.  Combined with a redesigned compartment jamb, cabinet depth is maximized, and door sealing is improved.

OUTRIGGER ADAPTABILITY:
The new 2250 Series I is compatible with both hydraulic and manual outriggers. It can be configured for either electric-over-hydraulic or fully-hydraulic cranes and outriggers to match, without having to change bodies. This provides increased adaptability for Distributors who have upfit and loose body inventory on the ground. Greater flexibility allows our Distribution network to meet customer demand, significantly reducing overall lead time.

ACCESSORY MOUNTING SYSTEM:
The 2250 Series I now comes with a 12-point universal accessory mounting system. The new system provides greater ability to mount welders, air compressors, toolboxes, reel cabinets and other add-ons.  Each mounting location is drilled and tapped pre-paint for easy adaptability of accessory changes, as needs evolve.  At first glance, the mounting points appear to be surface-welded. However, each one is recessed and welded to a cabinet infrastructure that connects all 12 together. The universal mounting system removes the need to drill into an STI body, eliminating the potential of water infiltration and corrosion entry points.
