The STI Universal Mounting System: Flexible, Adaptable, and Secure Accessory Mounting

On our 2250 update, one of the most significant changes for upfitters, or those configuring a new body directly from STI, is the 12-Point Universal Mounting System (UMS).

This Spring, we shared the “All New” 2250 body. That redesign addressed several important areas, including crane compatibility, safety, and weather protection. But one of the most significant changes for upfitters, or those configuring a new build directly from STI, is the 12-Point Universal Mounting System (UMS).

Now, every manufacturer has some system or process for mounting welders, compressors, multifunction’s, toolboxes, reel cabinets, rigging or any other aftermarket accessory. For some, that amounts to drilling directly through the top of the cabinet. It’s quick and simple, but it’s a method that invites water infiltration into the compartments which can accelerate the development of cabinet rust. It also has the potential to introduce moisture into the toolboxes and your valuable tools inside. Not an ideal trade-off.

Other brands have some type of rail systems. These may reduce the water-infiltration issue and allow flexibility for accessory placement, but they are ultimately top-mounted systems that are not integrated into the cabinet design. Over time, exposure to elements and jarring terrain may compromise the connection points.

The STI Universal Mounting System is Different

STI doesn’t use a surface-only connection for our mounting design. On the UMS, each point is tapped and connected to an internal framework that runs throughout the cabinets. The points are welded on the surface and are also welded to the internal structure. This ensures stability for heavy accessory units operating on uneven terrain, while eliminating the possibility for water infiltration.

12 Mounting Points Offer Maximum Flexibility

Enhanced from its previous 8-point design, STI’s new 12-point system also offers even greater mounting adaptability. The 12 mounting points enable accessories to be positioned anywhere on the length of the body to meet specific needs. Fleets and upfitters now can easily configure, reconfigure, or update their accessory package. This means:

1. The ability to stock generic configs vs being committed to one particular layout
2. Zero drilling or painting required to make changes after upfitting on a chassis
3. Higher utilization of available stock bodies vs ordering new with a longer lead time
